Introduction of Computer - Chandra's Concept

Definition of Computer

The Computer word comes from the word "compute", which means to calculate. The computer is an electronic device that can perform arithmetic (Like Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division) as well as logical (File creation, Photo editing, etc) Operations.

In other words; the computer is an electronic data processing machine that accepts input, processes it, and produces a meaningful result to the user of the computer system.

A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data. You probably know that you can use a computer to type documents, send emails, play games, and browse the web.

Components of Computer System

Hardware: All components of a computer system that can be seen, felt and touch is called Hardware. As: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Printer, CPU, etc.
Software: All components of the computer system which can be seen or felt only is called Software. A: Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Ms-Paint, Ms-office, Adobe Photoshop

Application of Computer

Education: The computer plays an important role in education nowadays. Technology and the Internet have made education easy and for everyone. Today you can find any information using the internet in a few seconds.
Health and Hospitality: Computer technology is used to recognize the disease. All the information about Health is digitalized nowadays. Many diseases can be cured with the help of technology. CT Scan, X-Ray are some examples of technology in Hosp[itality.
Business: Businesses are fastly growing with the help of technology. Today starting a new business is not a big deal. Marketing, retailing, banking, trading all becomes too easy to manage. We can say that business with technology is helping people to grow faster.
Entertainment: Our entertainment and pleasure time have also affected by computerization. We can watch movies, listen to music, browse the internet to make ourselves entertain, These all things are not possible without Computer Technology.
Government: Various departments of government use computers for their planning and control. Such as Traffic, Tourism, IT Department, etc.
There are also some other applications of the computer just like Science, Defence, etc.

Processing of Computer

All types of computers follow the same basic logical structure and perform the following basic operations for converting raw input data into useful information.
1). Take Input: The process of entering data and instructions into the computer system.
2). Store Data: Saving data and instructions so that they are available for processing and when required.
3). Processing Data: Performing arithmetic, and logical operations on data in order to convert them into useful information.
4). Output Information: The process of producing data useful information or result for the user, such as a printed report or visual display.
5). Control the workflow: Directs the manner and sequence in which all of the above operations are performed.

Basic characteristics of Computer

>Speed: As you know the computer can work very fast. It takes only a few seconds for calculations that we take hours to complete. You will be surprised to know that a computer can perform millions (1,000,000) of instructions and even more per second.
>Accuracy: The degree of accuracy of the computer is very high and every calculation is performed with the same accuracy. The errors in computers are due to human and inaccurate data.\
>Diligence: A computer is free from tiredness, lack of concentration, fatigue, etc. It can work for hours without creating any error. If millions of calculations are to be performed, a computer will perform every calculation with the same accuracy.
>Versatility: It means the capacity to perform a completely different type of work. You may use your computer to prepare payroll slips, Next moment you may use it for inventory management or prepare electric bills.
>Power of Remembering: A computer has the power of storing any amount of information or data. Any information can be stored and recalled as long as you require it, for any number of years. It depends entirely upon you how much data you want to store in a computer and when to lose or retrieve these data.
>No IQ: A computer is a dumb machine and it cannot do any work without instruction from the user. It performs the instructions at tremendous speed and with accuracy. It is you to decide what you want to do and in what sequence. So a computer cannot take its own decision as you can.
>No Feeling: It does not have feeling or emotion, taste, knowledge, and experience. Thus it does not get tired even after long hours of work. It does not distinguish between users.
>Storage: The computer has an inbuilt memory where it can store a large amount of data. You can also store data in secondary storage devices such as DVDs, Pendrive, etc which can be kept outside your computer and can be carried to other computers.
