What is a Software?

Software is a set of programs, which is designed to perform a well-designed function. A program is a sequence of instructions written to solve a particular problem.

Types of software 

• System software 
• Programming software 
• Application software

1. System Software

The system software is a collection of programs designed to operate, control, and extend the processing capability is of the computer itself. The system software is generally prepared by computer manufacturers. 

Some common types of system software are:

i). Operating System: The operating system is a software program or set of programs that mediate access between devices and application programs. It is of two types: (a). Without Kernal and (b). With Kernal.

ii). Device Drivers: drivers are shared computer programs that provide an interface between the hardware devices and operating system or other higher-level programs.

iii). Anti-virus Software: Anti-virus is that software program which protects the system to be the detection of viruses which are the cause of destroying record or delete data and so many problems.

2. Application Software

 Application software is designed and developed to accomplish one or more specific tasks or solve a particular problem. The major categories of these applications include word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, presentation software, graphics software ( Like- Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PageMaker, etc), and multimedia authoring application.

3. Programming Software

Programming software usually provides tools to assist a programmer in writing computer programs, and software using a different programming language in a more convenient way. Turbo C, Code Block, Notepad++ are some examples of programming software.

Computer Virus

A Virus is a program that reproduces its own Code by attaching itself to other executable files in such a way that the virus code is executed when the infected executable file is executed.

In other words, you can say a computer virus is a corrupt and harmful software or file, that can destroy our data. 

Viruses need time to infect, not all viruses attack, but all use system resources and often have bugs.
Viruses come in a great many different forms, but they all potentially have two phases to their execution, the infection phase, and the Attack phase.

There are over 1,00,000 known computer viruses, and their number is continuously growing. Some common examples of computer viruses are Macro, Malware, Adware, Ransomware, Phishing emails, Fake computer viruses, etc.
